The Makita 9227 buffer is one of the top two if not the best available. It has more than enough power and with the electronic speed control, maintains RPMs even when putting pressure on the tool if used as a sander/grinder. The handle is probably the best feature of this tool, giving you great control when buffing/polishing.

Excellent tool. The polisher is easy to control once you get the hang of it. It easily, quickly, and with plenty of power applied the liquid car wax I was using. The tool felt well balanced and well behaved. The speed control is delightful to experience - maintains the same speed under load or no load conditions.
br /
br /The tool came with two bonnets, one to apply compound and another for final polishiing. The compounding bonnet is the only one I used since I discovered this same bonnet also polishes to a deep luster as the wax you're applying hazes over - the bonnet polishes this haze to nice deep shine. I also used a small spray bottle of water to wet small areas to help spread the wax - it worked great. I am ordering two new compounding bonnets for spares. Suggest you test out the bonnets and find out for yourself before ordering more....

br /I am really happy with this tool, and I feel it is well worth the money. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to buy a similar tool.

I'd like to point out that although the photo of this item shows it comes with a foam polishing pad, it in fact does not include the foam pad.

I use this makita to buff out my cars. For the past 3 years I was using a dual action polisher, which did a fabulous job. However, it took forever to do one body panel, and if any paint imperfection was deeper than a swirl, it had a difficult time removing it.
br /
br /The makita is fast, durable, and very well made. Knowing that a rotary can easily ruin your cars finish I went at it very slow to begin with. The variable speed clutch allows you to slowly start spinning the head when you start as opposed to the machine ramping up to 1500 rpm right away. The bale handle makes for easy operation, and the entire unit weighed less than I had initially thought.
br /
br /Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. The storage bag is top notch as well. I came away very happy with the entire process, from order, to shipping and handling, it all went very smooth.

this tool is great for both sanding and polishing. While I'm just a hobbyist, the 9227cx3 has made me very happy. It has good low end torque so it keeps its speed steady even at low speed under load.

I used this buffer on a professional level non stop in a detail shop and never had anything but good things to say about it. We must have gone through 10 full/multi staged cars a day and it never broke down or complained. (the hardest part is getting the pads to center - the tool they include for that doesnt always work)
br /Get your self this buffer, a couple of pads of varying corseness and you'll be set to open up your own shop.

I have been cleaning boats for a long time, and have worked with a lot of different products. This is by far the best buffing wheel out there. The speed control is seperate from the trigger (it's not controlled by how hard you pull it). That makes things way easier. It does great work, it's very comfortable and easy to use. I have actually dropped one in the water; it cut out and then worked the next day. Better than the Milwaukee, Dewalt, Craftsman, or any other one for that matter.

I am a 71 year old woman, and yet I find this product very easy to use. I haven't used the sander feature; mainly the polisher, but it does a great job. I am very pleased with it and would highly recommend Makita products.

I bought this buffer to buff out and polish a natural penetrating oil finish that I applied to a white oak floor I installed in my son's bedroom.
br /
br /The Makita buffer is very powerful and smooth-operating. I learned not to use the trigger lock, because if this tool gets away from you (and it has the power to, if you get too close to an interfering object), you really want it to stop on its own and not go through the wall. This didn't happen to me (really), but it could have.
br /
br /I had to choose between the Dewalt and this one. I'm sure the Dewalt is a great tool also, but I have no regrets from buying the Makita.

I struggled with trying to buff out a 23 year old boat. After struggling with a hugely heavy old 1750 rpm polisher, I gave up and ordered the Makita. Wow, this almost made the job easy!! I cannot say enough good about this product.
br /
br /It is the high quality standards I have come to expect from Makita. It is light at 6 lbs and is very easy to use. The trigger and ergonomic handle make it easy on the hands.
br /
br /While the kit does not come with the foam pad as the picture would indicate, the wool pads (2) are of high quality.

I needed this Sander/Polisher for both sanding and polishing (Imagine that).
br /
br /The unit itself is excellent and I love the fact that I can dial it down to 600 RPM. It is really a high quality unit and I'm sure it will outlive me.
br /
br /Despite being advertised as a "Sander/Buffer" the kit does not have any sanding accessories and the sanding pad is difficult to locate on the web. I opted to purchase the additional pad that lists at the same time as the machine, but it just turns out to be another buffer pad, which is already included with the kit. So, after it was all said and done I had to place an additional order to get the sanding pad.
br /
br /Other than all that, I love the unit itself.

Everything about this product screams quality, the pads, the bag and of course the unit itself are all very well constructed and designed.
br /
br /It has the same 5/8" thread size as most angle grinders so you can use it with any of the wide variety of attachments made to fit angle grinders, just get some locking nuts from any grinder. It actually makes many of those attachments much more useful than they are on a standard angle grinder due to its lower speeds and the greater control offered by the loop style handle.
br /
br /Attach a fine wire brush wheel to easily make brushed metal, or use a spiral sewn cloth wheel with some polishing compound to bring metals to a mirror finish. Use it with a diamond disc for easily slicing through metal or wood. With a set of diamond polishing pads you can polish granite, marble and other natural stones to a high lustre. Attach ordinary microfiber towels or sponges to the hook and loop pad and you can buff or clean just about anything. I have even used it with grinding wheels meant for a bench grinder to sharpen my knives and garden tools.
br /
br /Of course it is also a great sander and famed in the auto detailing industry as one of the top (if not the best) circular car polishers on the market.
br /
br /What sets this tool apart from the pack is the fact that it can handle heavy torque loads without slowing down, even at low rpm. I have tried other similar tools (circular polishers and VS angle grinders capable of low speeds) which had no problems handling torque at higher speeds but could not handle much at low rpm without slowing down or wavering. That functionality is crucial to many delicate polishing and grinding applications where you need an even cut without removing too much material.
br /
br /This thing is very comfortable to use, runs smooth and quiet, does not overheat, and it can stand up to a heck of a lot of abuse. What more could you ask for?

This is a good tool. The motor is powerful with plenty of torque and yet well controlled with the variable speed selector. Most of the time I use the 300 rpm setting. At all speeds the machine is forgiving. The handles are well designed and allow a good range of grips. Some reviewers have commented negatively on the handles. Seems to be a non-issue for me. Especially nice if you are ambidextrous. I have worked with the tool for periods of 2 to 3 hours without fatigue. I have owned Makita tools for over 25 years. This one seems to be of as good quality as my electric 10" miter box (purchased in 1979). The cord is long but to work around a car I use a 12 ga. extension cord. I am using foam pads (purchased separately from Palm Beach Automotive) and the wool pads that came with the tool. Learning curve is not steep. Very important to me is the noise level of any tool. Construction work is bad for your hearing. This tool is quieter than many I have used. I do not intend to use this as a sander and can't comment on how it would work. I compared this with the Porter-Cable machine. It is a better tool. A few dollars more less do not matter when you will have a tool for the rest of your life.

Just as described which is just what I needed. I changed it to a 4" driver pad for polishing stone. It worked great. I like the variable speed which is hard to find on a tool. Can't wait to use it to get the scratches out of my car.

As stated in a previous review there is no foam pad. The two pads included are: wool #192629-7 compounding pad and #743403-A polishing pad. The polisher is great but the bargain is lost without the foam pad.

I Looked at many before buying this one for myself. I know several folks in the paint and body business and they own a variety of buffers..but this one seemed to be the "standard: for getting things done. I went to my local shop and they wanted me to go Dewalt or Porter Cable..but still did not discount the price very much....When I saw this Makita could not believe the model and price. My Local Makita guy said "can't touch " the price on amazon. The product was as advertised and works great...I have used it on several projects and my own 63 impala, 2003 gmc truck....No complaints. Like all of my purchases from amazon great service and shipping.
