I bought this sander for one very specific purpose: to sand some nooks and crannies which I couldn't reach when refinishing the softwood fir floor in our 1896 Victorian. I frankly didn't expect much and ordered the much more expensive Fein multi tool (which I'll now cancel) at the same time.
br /
br /The supplied sandpaper wore out within seconds--literally. I then cut a piece to fit from an 80 grit round I'd purchased for my Porter-Cable orbital sander. It worked great--the floor was smooth and ready for the finer grit and the sandpaper was ready for more work.
br /
br /The product includes a little canvas carry bag which is a nice feature--it comes with some little parts you'd almost certainly lose otherwise.

This is my first sander and I wanted something lightweight that I could handle and this fits the bill. Yes, replacements for the the hook and loop sandpaper are hard to find and expensive. Here's my solution:
br /1) Cut a piece of plain sandpaper in the desired courseness to match the mouse template.
br /2) Apply ordinary elmer's liquid glue to the top of a piece or worn out mouse sandpaper.
br /3) Press the new cut piece on top.
br /4) Put on a flat surface and place several books on top.
br /
br /After several hours, use on sander. No kidding, I've done this twice and it holds together for the life of the sandpaper.

I bought this to refinish/finish some furniture that I am working on. It works fairly well for light duty sanding. The main problem I ran into was trying to find the sandpaper/accessories I needed. Black Decker doesn't make low grit sandpapers, so you have to buy 3rd party. Not always easy to find. The other problem I had was trying to find replacement steel wool pads. None of the hardware/megastores in my town have them. If I had to do this over again, I would probably purchase sander that used standard sandpaper sheets.
br /
br /Update: I have recently found more third-party sheets that work with this sander. That may bump the rating to 3.5 or 4. I still can't find replacement steel wool sheets, so no 5 stars.

I got one a month ago to complement my 5 inch orbital variable speed DeWalt sander (a great sander by the way. I have had it for several years). I needed something to prepare a few old doors/door ways for painting. The big sander was too big because of panels and stuff on the doors, and profiling on the door posts. I am very impressed! Wasn't sure what to expect, but it sands away diligently and if you use the right grade of sand paper, starting coarse enough and work your way to finer mesh, I think the paper lasts quite well. Clever idea with a replaceable front diamond on the sand paper. It actually works. I haven't tried the detail sander add-ons it comes with, but look they probably will work well too. Very happy. Can't be your only sander, but a great additionla for detail work and corners and stuff. No dust collection so remember that breathing paint dust on a regular basis will cause long term damage to your lungs. Use a good mask, not the cheapy 5-pack for a couple of dollars, they don't protect you! Highly recommended.
Not a bad pickup for 30 bucks, though I tend to prefer larger, more powerful sanders...

I picked this up down at the Home Depot just a few days ago, and I have to say, I'm impressed. It sands a lot more for its size than you'd guess at first. I didn't really have any work I needed done with this guy, or any real motives for buying it other than to use it to threaten small children who are looking for a friend, but again, it's a pretty impressive little power house. Black Decker has always been a fairly reliable tool company, and this mini-sander gets the job done fair enough. For all you hardcore tool users out there foaming at the mouth because you found some feedback rating this 4 star power sander, good luck with your purchasing. This is a cheap easy-to-use sander that... sands. Oh, and about threatening small children with it, it gets that job done too. In fact, I've found taking it out and revving it up around the drunk neighborhood dads can produce some pretty funny results also.
br /
br /I almost forgot, the gel grip is pretty damn awesome. This way, you can sand (or do whatever you're doing with this thing) for twice as long before getting blisters on your hands!

I bought this sander to get into some tight spaces on some cabinet face frames that I was refinishing. I didn't expect much as I've never been impressed with BD tools. This sander did impress me. The add on pieces got into the nooks and crannies very well. The tool was quiet enough for the relative sanding power it provided. The main sanding pad did a nice job of bulk sanding. This sander would not my first choice for a finish sander but if you're looking for a second sander with versitile attachments and a low profile, give this one a try.

Facing a fussy sanding job on some water and UV-damaged window frames, I impulsively purchased this Mouse detail sander. I am really impressed. Spouse and I are deep into DIY projects on our 1881 Cape, and this will make many jobs easier. The clever sanding accessories, "finger" contour, etc., make this an extremely useful tool in the arsenal. I agree with a previous reviewer that better quality sandpaper will be an improvement in the future, but easy to accomplish by cutting down a different brand.
br /
br /It certainly won't replace the palm sander, belt sander, or disc sander, but it paid for itself in one day with the window job -- it saved me hours of fussy work.

I purchased the mouse to do some sanding on cabinets that the previous owner painted gray (eew). The sander works wonders with the BD jug orbit sander that I have to do the work. It gets ito tight spots wonderly. It sands down the paint to the wood and leaves a great job done. I have to say that when the job gets done, it'll look like a pro did the job. With both sanders, I haven't taken time off sanding, they both have very little vibration and I keep on a truckin at it.
br /
br /Thanks BD for the great tools that you make, Keep up the great work.
br /
br /As for you, try this mouse out. It beats the previous mouse that BD made.

This light, extremely maneuverable, and very quiet detail sander gets into tight places and can add a final power-sanding to open surfaces that doesn't eliminate the need for final hand-sanding, but makes it a quicker, easier job. There is no dust collection, but it doesn't make much dust, and I've yet to use any of the attachments because so far they've been unnecessary. This is the sort of power tool one might buy on a lark or for one specific, minor job, only to be surprised that it adds another dimension to your usual capabilities. Best of all, it's fairly inexpensive, a good addition to the Black and Decker product line.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality and usefulness of the Mouse. I have several larger sanders, but this is the first detail sander I've tried. It's a very handy little tool that I know I'll use often. I like its quiet operation and excellent ergonomics. This tool won't replace bigger sanders, but it's great for small jobs, tight spaces, and for touching up woodwork while painting.

While I am very pleased with this mouse sander itself, it's easy to use and much, much easier to handle than a full-size vibrating sander, I was very unhappy to discover that in place of the nice two-handled canvas bag pictured with it, what I received was a very small nylon bag not even large enough to accommodate both the sander and the included supplies. Silent inflation strikes again! You can't simply remove $5.00 or more in value from a product and expect customers to just accept it happily.
br /
br /I wrote to both Black Decker and to Crazy Dave's about the problem without a peep of response from either. I came to find out that Black Decker had dealt with the issue but for some reason I had never received their response. I had occasion to contact Black Decker for another reason (the battery of the HandiSaw I purchased about a year ago had ceased to hold a charge) and I mentioned this problem while I was on the phone with them (important to remember... you'll get MUCH better results on the toll-free phone number than in e-mail!) and I am delighted to report that not only are they sending me a NEW HandiSaw but they are also sending me the bag for the mouse sander which was pictured in the promotional ad.
br /
br /So all said, I am unusually happy with Black Decker. Every time I have had occasion to contact them, problems have been resolved absolutely to my satisfaction. This is so rare today. Companies seldom put as much emphasis on maintaining happy customers. My tools will continue coming from Black Decker.

My family asked what I wanted for Christmas, and I replied a sander, expecting an orbital or belt sander, useful for the many furniture refinishing projects I seem to get myself into time after time. What I got was this.
br /
br /It fits comfortably in the palm of my hand, and after even long periods, there's no pain from gripping it, only the numbness that comes from using any sander, sending the vibrations up my arm. It is, though, only useful for the small parts--the carved details of the molding, or in the corners where a regular sander can't reach. Despite following the picture instructions, I'm still not sure how to get the finger attachment to screw in, but that's probably just my own ineptitude... Even without, this sander has been extremely helpful, but I will still need to invest in a larger one for the projects that I do.

I bought this sander because I was so tired of my conventional sander that would sand for about a minute and then the paper would come off and you'd have to start all over. The velcro type system of the Black and Decker Mouse works fantastic. The shape of the sander is very convenient also, you can get into tight spots quite well without even using the fine detail attachments that come with the sander. I am thrilled with my purchase and the price at Amazon was unbeatable as far as I could find.

I have never been as impressed with a sander as this one. It is easy to handle, light weight, and it gets into places other sanders can't. Although it is small, it sands even the roughest surfaces efficiently. The Gel pads reduce the effects of vibration. If I have one complaint, it is that there is no 80 grit sandpaper available for the fingertip attachment.

This sander took the fourteen rust area's off my 1978 carprice classic. It took the rust off it right down to the metal of the car. It was great I used to sand by hand and one rust area would take one hour after which my arm was sort, but with this sander the whole job took two hours and now the body work of my car is done. I bought this sander for working on body of my car it got the job done. I would recommend it to anyone doing auto-body work.

I refinish lots of furniture old doors and windows and I love this thing. I strip as much as I can with paint stripper then use my Porter cable sanders( i have 5" and 6" randon orbital sanders) then use the Mouse for finishing. It works fine. BUT if you do much work you will need replacement tips because after awhile the tip pad will no longer keep the velcro sandpaper in place. Easy enough to do. As for price of sandaper and jury rigging new tips, guess I am an industrious shopper as I find resonable priced sandpaper and replacement tips( bought 4 at one time)So I like this mouse and it is lots easier then folding and messing with sandpaper and doing it by hand and using little dental picks ...though I still use them a little. would buy this again defineatly!!

Please, be smarter than me...don't buy this sander. It will die on you after only a limited amount of use. the "Mouse" will start varying speeds up and down, and finally it just stops..I was dumb enough to buy two...don't make the same mistake I did, find another brand and purchase it.

br /The Black and Decker MS550GB Mouse is ideal for sanding in tight, awkward places. Worked well for sanding paint off a large door window when the painter had been in a hurry and a bit careless (wasn't me!). Along with this 'Mouse', I'd recommend Black Decker's 3.6-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless Power Scissors, the Black and Decker Pivot Plus 6-Volt Nicad Cordless Screwdriver with Articulating Head and Black Decker's Handisaw Cordless Powered Hand Saw as being well worth buying. The Black and Decker Mouse is a roaring success and just the ticket for small projects. ~ The Boss
