This sander is awesome. It is very versital. The orbital sanding attachment strips paint away. The finger tool gets into the hard to get corners really well. It is a lot quieter than the ryobi sander I have and way more functional. The cyclonic dust filter is great as well. Not nearly as much saw dust flying around. I am in the process of refinishing kitchen cabinetry from white paint to a natural finish. This sander is great.

Great buy.

This was my first sander purchase so I did a little more research than a normal person. I looked at lot of other random orbit sanders even some with variable speed adjustment, but they ranged up to $150. This has various attachments and I bought it mainly for the job of sanding around one foot border of my living room 600 sqft floor. It did a great job. The "finish" and "detail" sanding attachments work wonder with the furniture also. Just for the heck of it, I tried removing paint from my wood paneling, and it worked fine.
br /
br /Although, I bought it in a a Black and Decker store for $39.99, but I'd advice it for the current price of $49.95 also.
br /
br /The dust filter barely does it job, and leaves quite a dust outside also. But, for this price, I wouldn't complain. I wouldn't recommend it for the ceiling since the dust would fall right on your face, but maybe ok for some minor jobs.
br /
br /All in all, a great buy.

The best little sander in the world

I do alot of furniture and cabinet refinishing and I think this is the best little sander in the world. It collects the dust as you go along and it has a pointed tip so you can reach any corner when sanding down furniture. It is light weight and very easy on the wrists. I don't need to wear a mask because the dust is contained. I love this little sander!!!!

Not a bad sander to have around.....

I was looking for a small sander, so when I saw an add on TV for this Black Decker unit with the dust accumilation it was interesting checked out the reviews. So for the price took the plunge, it arrived the other day tried it out. It doesn't pick up every piece of dust, but it does a darn good job. The collection cup does fill up fairly fast, so you have to keep an eye on it to see when it needs emptying, but that's no big deal if you pay attention. And the attachments are perfect for details such as corners or sligtly larger jobs. The velcro system of installing sanding pads is convient, haven't had to get new ones yet, so I don't know how much they cost. So the one downside of this sander it would have been nice to be able to adapt use sandpaper sheets of one's own choosing. Overall I'm pleased with this item. It won't do the big job of a belt sander, but it doesn't pretend to be one.

Decent - but two frustrating, dumb design flaws.

Just picked up one of these for a hardwood staircase. Works well enough except for two frustrating, stupid design flaws:
br /
br /1. The black plastic pad that holds the paper will mar adjacent surfaces with a black mark if you get it to close. Is it to much to ask for a better material here?
br /
br /2. You can reverse the iron shaped pade so the square part is forward to get into corners better - even shows a picture of this on the box. I'm sure it works fine forlow edges. But if you try to get it into the corner where there is a long edge, the front of the case sticks out about 1/4" to far.
br /
br /It's also be nice if you could remove the dust collection thing for when you're working in tight areas.

Nice machine, but...

This is my very first power tool and I like it a lot. It works very well overall. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the tip, which is detachable, started cominging off after only a few uses. If I want to sand with the tip, I have to use a whole new piece of sandpaper to hold it in place. Once the tip part wears out (and it's always the first part that does) and I try to put a replacement sandpaper tip on, it (the diamond-shaped tip on the actual sander) keeps falling off. Other than that, it's great.

Works hard so I don't have to

I love this tool! I bought it to remove paint from a Formica counter top and it did the job easily, though certainly not mess-free. The canister did catch a lot of the paint dust, but plenty escaped and settled all over the bathroom. I realized it when I noticed that my nice white shower curtain was red. ;-) So, wear a dust mask and old clothes.
br /
br /The only problem I've had is with the teeny screw that must be removed to attach the Finger Detail Attachment. It was in so tight that I eventually managed to ruin the head trying to get it out. I took it to Lowes where two different men decided to make it their pet project for the day. After several minutes and some hefty man-type efforts, they got the damaged screw out, warning me not to reuse it. I bought new ones.
br /
br /I don't know much about power tools, but if I can complete a job with this sander, anyone can! I'm giving four stars instead of five because the dust isn't as contained as Black and Decker said it would be, and because of the screw that was put in way too tight.

Does the Job.

I ordered this based on the individual reviews I read. It met my needs and worked well. I thought it came with a holder/case, but it didn't. Have no complaints.

I bought this as a Christmas present for my husband and here it is mid January and he's already found many uses for it. He is now going out of his way to find uses or his sander. The added attachments are great for household projects.

Great for the 4-5 hours of use and then it stoped working

I bought this sander for some misc. work and sanding down two coffe tables so I can refinish them. As I write this I am filled with frustration as my SECOND Cyclone within the last month has now stopped turning on. The first one suffered the exact same fate. The sad part is I am only half way through my second coffe table.
br /
br /The unit when it works is great. I love the ability to switch between the orbital and the detail sander as I have a need for both. However both of them have died on me after 4-5 hours of use. I turned them both off to clean out the dust collectore and then they never turned back on again. I am now returning the second Cyclone back to the store where I bought it and buying a Dewalt. I know personally I look to amazons reviews for tools quite often so I thought id just share my frustration in hoops that I help someone else avoid my situation.

Blows dust everywhere, but sands pretty well

I gave this two stars because it specifically advertises that it captures sanding dust with its "cyclonic" action. The only thing it does in a cyclonic action is blow dust all over your room.
br /
br /From a sanding perspective, it does a good job and the tip will get into tight areas.

The product works well for the price, but if your using a sander for big and long term projects you might be advised to look elsewhere. Wear a mask ( I know, its a pain in the butt), but this VERY small dust holder does not work as well as a old fashioned dust bag. It looks light weight, but after a few hours will may find it weighs a ton.
br /The VERY disappointing thing was that it was a used model, that was sold as new ( Amazon), upon opening the box I noticed wide clear tape over the opening, a great indicator that it was resealed. I opened it and sure enough, one sheet was missing, sawdust on the grip....not good Amazon! Yes, I could have returned it, but I needed it now, as stores were either sold out or its on the way out. This is my first bad experience with Amazon, after being pleased with all other orders, but everyone deserves a second chance. My suggestion to Amazon,or black and decker is that returns should be noted, new is new, returns are not.

I am in the middle of a staircase refinishing project. I have a 1/4 sheet sander and a belt sander. I needed something to get into tighter corners and for a little more aggressive paint stripping. I used stripper to remove the paint, but there were remnants absorbed into the wood fibers. I picked this up at a local hardware store and am very happy with the product. I have been running it for hours and the orbital action really speeds up the surface paint removal. The finger and detail attachments work nicely for the tight spots. This uses standard 5 inch hook and loop orbital pads and I had no difficulty in finding the detail pads at the same store.
br /
br /I should point out that I am using this for a job that is much more extreme than this product was designed for. Considering the abuse it has endured so far, I would say that this sander could handle smaller tasks with ease and for a normal weekend woodworker's usual "honey do" projects, should last a normal lifetime. If not, it has a two year warranty. I know I will definitely get my money's worth out of the product.

Looks great - works well!
br /
br /BUT - nobody has paper to fit this sucker. Not even the BD web site. Called the "CALL BEFORE RETURNING" number. They sent me to their local factory repair store. Called them - they have no paper for it either - but did mention this item is discontinued!!!
br /
br /Am returning it on Monday.
br /
br /Too bad, because it did work OK for the one project we bought it for.

I've never owned a sander before but this little unit seems quite powerful to me. I used it to sand some boards for a craft project and it worked very well.

For the price what's not to like?

I have used this tool for several detailed sanding projects and have been pleasantly surprised at the versitility and ease of use. Very quiet too compared to other sanders I own. A very innovative product that, for the home hobbyist, can save a great deal of money versus buying several specialized sanders.

Love this little sander. No breathing of sawdust.

I love this little sander. I got it to work on my kitchen cabinets..I have asthma and sanding with a traditional sander is out of the question. This little guy gets in all the tight places and then you get to empty the little cup and not breathe the sawdust and there is no mess to clean up.
br /
br /Not for huge jobs but just right for what I needed. I also repaired a small area of hard wood floor that dog had peed on repeatedly. I was able to san it down and refinish just that smal area without a big mess.
br /

Bought this to refinish our oak dining table. The table has curves and grooves in its design and the small attachment is very helpful. Couldn't have finished project without it.
